100 Years and Counting

BEGINNING

1926

The Bank of Inverness was originally founded on July 1, 1926 by George H. Brannen, Sr; as the Bank of Homosassa located in Homosassa Springs, FL. On November 20, 1929 the bank had been moved, lock, stock and $16,000 in assets, to Inverness on the back of a lumber truck in search of a more favorable location. At that time the name was changed to The Bank of Inverness.

The bank prospered in this location and is still in use as the Downtown Branch. It was the only bank to survive the depression and "crash" of 1929.

Over the years, the Bank's operations expanded with the opening of Dunnellon State Bank in 1946, Crystal River in 1954, and in 1970, we came full circle and opened a bank back in Homosassa Springs where it all began.

The Bank was flourishing with $12 million in assets.

50 Years

1976

The Hernando County Bank in Brooksville was opened in 1987. Joe and George Brannen continued to operate with the conservative fundamentals that their father taught them. He was known as one of the most conservative bankers in Florida, but that was very good in times like the savings and loan crisis and the various recessions.

The Bank remained profitable with $45 million in assets.

All our banks were independently chartered because there was no branch banking in Florida when they were formed. That meant five bank presidents, five of everything, and we realized we could accomplish great savings if we consolidated all five banks into the original Bank of Inverness charter.

This consolidation process was completed in February 2008 with $450 million in assets.

100 Years

2026

We've provided secure financial services for 100 years and will continue to provide the same great services throughout the years to come. Not many banks our size have strong liquidity with adequate capital and strong asset quality. Those were Dad’s fundamentals, which he put into play 100 years ago, and we still use those to guide us as we go forward.

The Bank has reached assets of $1 billion.

About Us

We want to continue to serve our community as we always have. We're putting our money to work in our community, which differentiates us from some of the larger banks. We're the epitome of a true hometown community bank. We take care of our customers, and we take care of our employees—they're part of the Brannen Bank family. That's our culture, and we're proud of the fact that we've been able to do that for 100 years. We've got a special thing here, and we've been so blessed.

As we approach our 100th year of serving Citrus and the surrounding counties, we are as committed as ever before to providing the best customer service around.  With banks on every corner, we pride ourselves in being the only locally owned and operated financial institution in Citrus County. Using common sense decision making to differentiate ourselves from the competition. We look forward to serving the citizens of our community for another 100 years.

The ability of Brannen Bank to pivot on a dime is truly unique. When opportunities arise that benefit our customer base, we are able to act immediately. This flexibility sets us apart from the competition, enabling us to implement products, services, or solutions that other banks cannot. Brannen Bank has always prioritized its customers—and always will.

For 100 years, Brannen Bank has stood strong—not because we're the biggest, but because we're built on something bigger: community. Our dedicated employees go the extra mile, delivering personal service that bigger banks simply can't match. When you bank with us, your deposits stay right here—invested back into our neighborhoods through loans to local families and businesses. With decisions made by people who live and work here, we remain deeply rooted in the success of our community. This milestone belongs to all of us—our customers, our team, and the community we proudly serve.

We continue to embrace The Brannen Family's vision of a "community bank." We enjoy helping our customers in the surrounding communities by lending them depositor funds for the purchase of homes and businesses. Our customers realize that they can reach out to us anytime, we're accessible—we live here. We just get tremendous satisfaction from helping our neighbors realize their dreams and we hope to continue being their “Hometown Bank” for another 100 years.
