The Nature Coast is a seven-county coastal region that extends north from Pasco County up through Hernando County, Citrus County, Levy County, Wakulla County, Dixie County, Taylor County and the City of Dunnellon. A coordinated effort by the Chambers of Commerce and a dozen town and county governments has ensured preservation, protection and management of over 2,000 acres of lush wetlands, sparkling fresh and saltwater springs and abundant fish and wildlife.

With an emphasis on ecotourism and for the appreciation of future generations, the Nature Coast has preserved a dwindling portion of the "real Florida" as it was seen by the first explorers to the area. Residents and tourists to the Nature Coast will enjoy the outdoor recreational opportunities and will see more species of mammals, birds and fish than in any other region of similar size in Florida or the United States. Citrus County alone has the largest concentration of wintering manatees in the world, and is world renowned for its efforts to protect these magnificent, yet endangered mammals.
