The Bank of Inverness and its founder, the late George H. Brannen, Sr., have been a part of Citrus County's banking tradition since 1926. The Bank of Inverness was originally founded July 1, 1926, as the Bank of Homosassa at the corner of U.S. 19 and Grover Cleveland Blvd. in Homosassa Springs. As the economic depression of the late 1920's began to take its toll, it was felt the bank would be in a much better position to grow and prosper if it were moved.

On November 20, 1929, the Homosassa Bank was moved to Inverness, the county seat. The name was changed at that time to The Bank of Inverness. The move proved to be a good one, as the bank was successful and was the only bank in Citrus County to survive the "crash" of 1929, and the following era of the Great Depression.

In 1929, the bank moved to the site that is now the Downtown Branch on Main Street. In 1974, the bank installed a remote drive-in facility on the present site of the main office. The main office was completed and opened for business July 26, 1976. To meet the demands of a rapidly increasing population and customer base, the Beverly Hills Branch was opened in August of 1977. The Floral City Branch opened in the Fall of 1980. The West Branch opened in March of 1985 and is located on Hwy. 44 West of Inverness. Our newest location, the Hernando Branch, opened in May 1993 on Hwy. 41 N. in Hernando.
